HPLight
Frequently Asked Questions
1. Does HPLight really work?
Yes. In clinical trials held by physicians HPLight has proved to safely achieve long-term hair removal results.
2. Where on my body can I use HPLight?
The HPLight device has been designed for full body hair removal. The most common areas treated with HPLight are: legs, underarms, arms, bikini line and face.
3. How long does HPLight hair removal session take?
It depends on the area of the body treated. A full leg can take up to 30 minutes, two underarms – up to 10 minutes. As HPLight is electrically powered, it can be used for as long as needed to complete a hair removal session on the desired body part(s).
4. Is HPLight safe?
HPLight was developed according to the European safety standards, clinically tested and recommended for home use by dermatologists and plastic surgeons. But like any other skin product or electronic device, it should be used according to the user’s manual and with necessary safety measures.
5. Will HPLight treatment hurt?
If the device is used properly most people report a slight feeling of heat at the time of light pulse. Users with thicker and darker hair may feel a little bit more discomfort, but it disappears once the hair removal session is completed. For your convenience HPLight has five setting levels that can be adjusted according to your sensitivity.
6. How often should I use HPLight?
First 3 or 4 hair removal sessions with HPLight should be conducted with a 2 weeks interval. If the desired result is not achieved, we recommend to continue the sessions until unwanted hair is fully removed.
7. Is HPLight effective on white, grey or blond hair?
HPLight works better on darker hair types or hair that has more melanin. Melanin is the pigment that gives hair and the skin their color and absorbs light energy. Black and dark brown hair has the best response to HPLight impulse, brown and light brown hair also responds but typically requires more hair removal sessions. Red hair may show some response. White, grey or blonde hair usually does not respond to HPLight impulse though some users noted results after multiple hair removal sessions.
8. Can HPLight be used on dark skin?
Do not use HPLight if you have dark skin by nature. HPLight removes unwanted hair with selective impact on the pigment in the hair shaft. The surrounding tissues also have some pigment. The amount of pigment in the skin of a particular person depends on the skin type and determines the degree of risk when using HPLight. HPLight treatments on dark skin can cause harmful effects such as burns, blisters and change of skin color (hyper- and hypopigmentation).
9. When will I see the results of using HPLight?
As with any light based or laser hair removal devices, results are not immediate and in fact you may think nothing happened at all. Hair may sometimes appear to be growing back after a hair removal session, but typically after two weeks most of it will simply fall out. Besides, there are three different stages of hair growth and HPLight impacts only hair that is at an active growth stage. This is one of the main reasons to have multiple sessions to achieve the desired results.
10. Can a man use HPLight?
Though designed exclusively for women, HPLight may be suitable for use by men. However, hairs on men, typically those on the chest, will require more hair removal sessions than that of women to get the desired results.
11. Why is my hair growing even though I treated it a week ago?
It is quite common for hair to appear, as it is still growing up to two weeks after HPLight treatment. Approximately in a two weeks period you will see that the hair simply falls out or comes out when slightly pulled. (However, we do not recommend to pull the hair – it should come out in a natural way). It is also possible that some hair was not affected by HPLight due to missed application or a different stage of hair growth. This hair will be treated in the following sessions, thus multiple hair removal sessions are needed to get the best results with HPLight.
12. Is that true that some hair grows thinner and lighter after photo epilation?
Doctors and experts in aesthetic medicine who work with photo and laser epilation describe this process in detail. It is possible that some hair grows back, but it will be lighter and thinner after HPLight treatment. To impact this hair one should continue using HPLight.
13. Why photo epilation is not recommended on suntanned skin?
You should not use HPLight on suntanned skin. Suntanned skin, especially right after it has been exposed to the sun, contains a lot of melanin. This refers to all skin types including those that seem to be not capable of getting a quick suntan. Skin with greater amount of melanin is at bigger risk to have harmful effects such as burns, blisters and change of skin color (hyper- and hypopigmentation) when using HPLight.
14. Is HPLight harmful if used for a long period?
Use of optical and laser energy in aesthetic medicine was described over the last 15 years in detail in professional magazines, research works and materials published by reputable institutions like Mayo county clinic (Ireland). These materials and research works do not report about any side or harmful effects caused by the use of photo and laser epilation during a long period.
15. Can HPLight be used to remove hair on the chin or anywhere else on the face?
HPLight can be used for the treatment of facial hair from the cheek line downwards. Extra caution should be used on the face to avoid the eyes – never use HPLight around or near the eyes. And as with other parts of the body care should be taken to avoid sun exposure before and after treatments with HPLight. Acceptable means of sun protection are covering garments or sunscreen (SPF higher than 50) used continuously for 3 weeks before and after treatments.
16. How long should I wait before using HPLight after being exposed to the sun?
Before using HPLight you should wait during 4 weeks after being exposed to the sun. If you are not sure how active the sun was, please consult your physician or MS Westfalia GmbH Client Service.
17. Should I do anything special before using HPLight?
Before an HPLight treatment session it is important to exclude any sun influence on the area treated during 4 weeks. To protect your skin from the sun, it is necessary to use sunscreen creams or sun lotions with high SPF (50+). You should also clean the treated area of the skin with slightly soapy water before the treatment session and shave the hair to the level of skin surface.
18. How should I care about the treated area after HPlight usage?
You should clean and care about HPLight treated area with regular skin care products. Special attention should be paid to avoid being exposed to the sun. To protect body parts that are not covered with clothes, please use sunscreen creams and sun lotions with high SPF (50+).
19. Should I pull the hair out after treatment? No, it should come out in a natural way. It may take up to two weeks.
